First of all, most of us don’t drink enough water. We get symptoms of mild dehydration that include weight gain, high cholesterol, premature aging, heartburn and constipation.

Tap water isn’t the answer. It’s got traces of contaminants that include arsenic (obviously bad for you), aluminum (which can cause a variety of problems including learning problems in children, Parkinson’s, and liver disease), disinfection byproducts from using chlorine that are carcinogenic, flouride, and more.

Bottled water? Forty percent of it is simply tap water. Add the plastics chemicals like BPA, and you’re ingesting some stuff that’s genuinely bad for you, not to mention bad for the landfills.

Distilled water? Not good for you. Period.

Alkaline water? Useful for detoxification for a short term. Period.

Vitamin waters? They contain high-fructose corn syrup, and are just about as bad for you as soda, causing weight gain and delivering plastics chemicals from the bottle.

Filtered tap water? It’s the way to go. Carbon block filters, possibly combined with reverse osmosis or ion exchange, provide the safe water we need.

Mercola says he’s going to be launching a line of high-performing water filters.

Now, I think he ought to be promoting Multi-Pure, the best filters, certified by NSF, that are available. I am sure that whatever his line of filters will be, it won’t perform any better than Multi-Pure.

So, consider his argument! Take a look at the home water filters available, and you’ll agree that Multi-Pure does the best job and is guaranteed for life (provided you change the filters on schedule).

Thanks for your website. I too am concerned about toxins in municipal water. I’ve spent a few weeks doing a ton of research on different water filter systems. I agree that Multi-Pure is the best on the market. (And I was very turned off by questionable Aquasana marketing practices – ie. numerous fake websites – and their lack of NSF certification.) Do you know if their MPAD countertop model is BPA free polypropylene? They don’t seem to specify, and that’s a huge selling point for me. I am trying to decide between the stainless steel models and this plastic one (MPAD). Thanks, Susan

I asked MultiPure your question. Here is the answer:
“Yes, the MPAD is BPA Free.  We use food grade quality polypropylene for
our plastics.  The NSF tests for this as well.  We are certified by the
NSF.  We do not add anything into the water from our Systems.”–Lorinda Long

So I asked another question:
“How about the tubing? Is it free of phthalates and BPA?”

Her answer:
“Yes!”

The previous system I used was a Pur or Brita countertop reservoir (like a large pitcher, with a spigot).  It worked fine,  but the flow rate was miserably low. I never would have used it for a pot of soup. Actually, I just filled a pot with filtered water for a pot of soup.    Also, I got tired of washing the reservoir.  It just didn’t generate enough filtered water for six people, and was a bother to boot. So I stopped using it. That was a number of years ago.

In the meantime we’ve been drinking good old St. Louis tap water, which is pretty good but still has plenty of undesirable stuff in it.  I am thrilled to be able to filter it now, do a good job, get high flow, and no maintenance (except once a year, changing the filter).  The system components seem very durable, so I don’t expect to have to take Multi-Pure up on its warranty.  I’m especially happy because we have two kids with Asperger’s, and it seems that people on the autism spectrum have trouble getting toxins out of their bodies.  So now we’re being responsible about not letting toxins into our drinking water.
